Capella Reserve in Erskine Park, New South Wales, is a community-focused recreational area that provides a variety of amenities for locals to enjoy. This park is particularly valued for its family-friendly features, including playgrounds equipped with modern play equipment suitable for children of different ages. The area also offers picnic facilities, making it a popular spot for family outings and community gatherings.

The Requirement

To enhance visitor experience and inclusivity by investing in new bins for cleanliness, comfortable benches and seating for longer stays, and DDA-compliant picnic settings to ensure accessibility for all.

The Challenges

• Durability and Vandalism Resistance: Products must withstand harsh weather conditions and potential vandalism, necessitating robust and durable materials that can endure over time without frequent maintenance.
• Safety and Compliance: Ensuring all installations comply with safety standards and regulations, such as DDA (Disability Discrimination Act) requirements for accessibility.
• Aesthetics and Design Consistency: Selecting products that not only are functional but also aesthetically pleasing and consistent with the park’s existing design and natural environment.

The Solution

After evaluating the challenges and requirements, Capella Reserve selected a few key products from Penrith City Council’s new outdoor furniture specification suite, exclusive to Astra Street Furniture. Selected products included the Barcelona DDA Seat with Armrests, Barcelona Setting with Benches - Single End Accessible, 240L Stainless Steel LC Athens Bin Enclosure - Curved Covered Top, Venice Water Fountain - DDA Compliant with Dog Bowl.

The Barcelona DDA Seat with Armrests offers the following features:

• Durability and Corrosion Resistance: The seat features a strong steel frame that is zinc-plated for rust protection, ensuring long-term durability and suitability for various weather conditions.
• Ergonomic Design: With its subtle curvature of the slatted edges, the Barcelona Seat offers ergonomic comfort, making it easier for users to sit and rise without discomfort, and ensures smooth interaction with the table without snagging clothes.
• Versatility in Materials and Styles: The seat slats are available in five different styles, including wood grain aluminium in western red cedar or blonde oak finishes, plain anodised aluminium, Merbau hardwood, and composite enviro slat, offering a variety of looks to suit different preferences and needs.

• Robust Construction and Weather Resistance: Built with a strong steel frame that is zinc-plated for rust protection and coated with a premium charcoal-coloured powder coat, the setting is designed to withstand various environmental conditions, ensuring durability and longevity.
• Ergonomic and Safe Design: The subtle curvature of the slatted edges provides ergonomic comfort for sitting and dining.
• Aesthetic Appeal and Versatility: This setting is aesthetically pleasing and functional. It is available with a variety of slat options, including Merbau Hardwood, Anodised Aluminium, and Wood Grain Aluminium in different finishes, allowing customisation to fit different environmental aesthetics.

The 120L Stainless Steel Athens Bin Enclosure - Curved Covered Top offers the following features:

• Robust Construction: The enclosure features heavy-duty stainless steel hinges and a heavy 2mm wall thickness made from Zincanneal steel with a premium powder coat finish, ensuring durability and resistance to wear and weather conditions.
• Security and Functionality: Equipped with a heavy-duty quarter turn cam lock that can be customised, it offers superior security compared to standard locks, protecting contents against unauthorised access.
• Structural Integrity: The design includes a wide and long striker to prevent the door from bowing or becoming uneven, maintaining structural integrity and functionality over time.
