Why Should You Remove the Protective Plastic Film from Your Stainless Steel Products?

At Astra Street Furniture, our stainless steel products are supplied with a protective plastic film adhered to the polished stainless steel.  This is to prevent scratches, dirt, and other forms of damage that can occur before the furniture reaches its final location. We always recommend that customers remove this film as soon as possible. Why, you ask? There are several important reasons:

  1. The Plastic Film Can Become Brittle: Once installed in the open sun, the plastic film can become brittle and difficult to remove. If left on too long, the adhesive used to attach the film can degrade, making the removal process more challenging. Brittle film may tear easily, leaving bits of plastic and adhesive residue on the surface, which can be tedious to clean and may require special solvents to remove completely.
  2. Complications with Furniture Assembly: Sometimes, furniture is assembled with the film still on, which can cause complications. Screws and other fasteners used in the assembly can trap the film, making it hard to remove without disassembling parts of the furniture. This can be frustrating and time-consuming, and it increases the risk of scratching the stainless steel surface during the removal process.
  3. Aesthetics and Visual Appeal: Leaving the protective film on your stainless steel furniture can significantly detract from the overall appearance, especially in new buildings or landscaped areas. The film can look unsightly and unprofessional, undermining the sleek, polished look of your stainless steel products. Removing the film promptly ensures that your furniture looks its best and enhances the aesthetic appeal of your space.

Tips for Removing the Plastic Film

  1. Remove Promptly: Remove the film as soon as possible after receiving the product to avoid the film becoming brittle and difficult to remove.  Remove the film before assembling and installing the furniture.
  2. Peel Carefully: Slowly peel off the film to avoid tearing and leaving adhesive residue. If residue is left behind, it can typically be removed with a mild adhesive remover.
  3. Avoid Sharp Objects: Do not use sharp objects, such as knives, to remove the film, as they can scratch the stainless steel surface.
  4. Clean the Surface: After removing the film, clean the stainless steel with a suitable stainless steel cleaner to remove any remaining adhesive and to enhance its shine.

By following these recommendations, you can ensure your stainless steel furniture maintains its pristine appearance and functionality.
